In conjunction with Process Analysis, a Point-to-Point diagram is a graphical tool
used to illustrate the physical flow of products and services through a facility.
In conjunction with Activity Analysis, it represents the walk patterns of staff during
the execution of a work activity.
In both cases, the objective of the diagram is to understand the relative distances
traveled in order to reduce the waste of handling, transportation, and walking.
Creating a Point to Point
There are three ways to create a Point-to-Point Diagram.
1. From the Project Panel, select the Analysis tab and then click on the "Point-to-Point" button.
2. From the Edit Process screen, select the a process to create a point-to-point
for and then click "Set Point-to-Point".
3. From the Edit Activity Analysis screen, select an activity and then click "Set
Point-to-Point".
Regardless of the way that a point-to-point was initiated, a dialog box will be
displayed prompting you to enter the name of the point-to-point diagram.
1. Enter a name and then click Open.
2. Catena will create a Point-to-Point file in the project's toolkit folder and then
open it in PowerPoint. The first page contains instructions on how to use the
Point to Point.
3. Advance to the next page to display the point-to-point canvas.
4. Optionally, paste in a copy of a floor plan of the work area. Use the line tools
on the Drawing Toolbar (Office 2003) or Ribbon (2007) to draw the product
flow and/or staff walk patterns. You can also use the Shapes features to
create or augment the floor plan.

If the Drawing tool bar isn't displayed, Select View | Toolbars | Drawings
(Office 2003) or Click Home then look for the Drawing section (Office 2007).
5. When Finished, save the file and exit Power Point.
6. To
View or Edit the Point-to-Point diagram, click the View button (On the Edit
Process or Edit Activity Analysis screens) or click the Point to Points button
on the Project Panel and then select the file from the list in the resulting dialog
box.
